Jaguar showcases C-X16 at LA auto show

Jaguar C-X16 concept incorporates a 95 bhp electric motor which can be used to drive the car for short distances up to 50mph, or can be used in conjunction with the 375bhp 3.0-litre V6 engine to produce a speed boost at the touch of a button.
It was mentioned that expected to be launched in late 2012, the Jaguar C-X16 will cost between £55,000 and £70,000 and will feature that 3.0-litre V6 with electric motor mated to a ZR eight-speed automatic gearbox. On its own, the electric motor - which is charged by harvesting power from the engine during braking, similar to KERS technology in Formula One - produces 95bhp and 173lb ft of torque, and can power the Jag for short distances at speeds up to 50mph.

The 2012 Jeep Wrangler will hold its value better in five years than any other vehicle, Kelley Blue Book predicts.\

The Wrangler has risen to the top of the compact SUV category in separate rankings by ALG and Kelley Blue Book, which predict future resale values.

Five years from now, Kelley Blue Book predicts, a 2012 Wrangler will be worth 55 percent of its current, new-vehicle price. That projected residual value put it at the top of Kelley Blue Book's compact vehicle category, up from second place last year, when the 2011 Wrangler's residual value was projected at 45.2 percent.

Jeep Wrangler is rough but ready

Jeep's Wrangler is the epitome of an off-road vehicle, a direct descendant of the Willys that went off to war with so many of our fathers and grandfathers in World War II.

Today's Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4X4 is a far cry from that original 1941 buckboard, but it'll still go way off road to conquer whatever mud, muck and man-made hazards stand between driver and destination.

Most of us don't need to climb a steep wall of boulders or ford a stream or muscle through a foot of mud. We need to get to work, pick up the kids or head to the mall.


For that, there are many more comfortable, quiet and refined sport-utility trucks that would fit the bill for the test Jeep's $39,640 sticker price. But there is only one Jeep and if that is what you hanker for, the four-door Rubicon will carry your rucksack, tent and a family of four on a rugged outdoor adventure.

Unlike many SUVs, you can take the Rubicon off-road because it has 10.1 inches of ground clearance, tunable shocks to give it better feel on rocks but a firmer ride on the road, plus a serious four-wheel-drive system that requires you to shift a stubborn lever adjacent to the usual five-speed automatic transmission. The automatic is extra here, costing $1,125 and including a hill descent control that helps the Jeep crawl down a steep incline safely.

2013 Mustang comes with 650-horsepower production V-8 engine

The Detroit muscle car horsepower race escalated Tuesday when Ford Motor Co. announced that the 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang will have a 650-horsepower V-8 engine.
The company will unveil the GT500 and a freshened version of the regular Mustang on Tuesday night at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Ford says the Shelby version will have the most powerful production V-8 engine in the world, with a top speed of over 200 mph.

The 5.8-liter engine is mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. Ford wouldn't release the gas mileage but said it would be good enough to avoid the U.S. tax on gas guzzlers.

The GT500 beats the most powerful model put out by rival General Motors Co. by 12 horsepower. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 is rated at 638 horsepower.

Ferrari keeps focus on solving 2012 wing 'fluttering'

Ferrari has entered another week with a firm focus on the flexibility of its new front wing.

The Red Bull-like component made its track debut recently but in India and Abu Dhabi it was observed "fluttering" violently at the front of Felipe Massa's car.

So among the famous Italian team's job lists this week in Abu Dhabi, where Jules Bianchi is running all three days of the 'young driver' test, is to solve that problem as soon as possible.

"We are trying to find the reasons for the vibration," confirmed Frenchman Bianchi, according to the Spanish sports daily AS.

A monster engine fitted on the new 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 has left everyone in awe when figures concerning it were revealed. The 5.8 liter supercharged V8 engine manages to bring together 650 horsepower casting a shadow on all others.

While not exactly belonging in the category of others, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 pumps out 12 horses less than the Shelby GT500, while the Camaro ZL1 is 70 horses behind. To further continue this comparison A Ferrari 458 Italia develops 80 horsepower less than the Shelby.

The upgrade Ford had installed on the 2013 Shelby puts the vehicle in supercar territory, in a comfortable position. However, that is not the end of the story, not by a long shot. Modifications have been done on almost every parts of the car from powertrain, to suspension, brakes, and aerodynamics.

The new aluminium V8 engine not only produces 650 horsepower but also the torque figure is impressive as well standing at 600 lb-ft. this certainly qualifies this engine for the title of the most powerful V8 in the world. Everything about it is new from the camshaft profiles, cross drilled blocks and heads, to the carbon fiber driveshaft and improved clutch. It also features a one of a kind supercharger.
